Sound-optimised blade geometry and profile:
The NF-R8 is the first fan employing a novel 80mm rotor which was developed by the Austrian Institute for Heat-Transmission and Fan Technology (Österreichisches Institut für Wärmeübertragung und Ventilatorentechnik, ÖIWV). Thanks to the special optimisation of the blade geometry towards ultra low noise application, the NF-R8 is up to 10% more quiet than current high-end fans at the same flow rate.

"Después de probar este Noctua NF-R8, nos hemos quedado
encantados. Si buscamos el máximo silencio en nuestro HTPC,
tenemos el ventilador ideal. Pero si buscamos un ventilador que
refrigere algún equipo con problemas de calor, también lo
tendremos. Esto es así gracias a los adaptadores de corriente
que nos trae como accesorio, consiguiendo tener tres
ventiladores en uno. Desde un ventilador que funcionará a 1800
r.p.m. y un flujo de aire my bueno, hasta otro ventilador que
irá a 800 r.p.m., con un caudal de aire aun bueno, pero con sólo
7dB de ruido, pasando por otro intermedio, de 1300 r.p.m. y
10dB."
Test verdict: "Un ventilador excelente, con un ruido extremadamente bajo, que no explica el gran caudal de aire que mueve. Imprescindible para cualquier usuario de equipos HTPC que busquen el máximo silencio pero que no quieran sacrificar la refrigeración de sus componentes. "Testing the Noctua NF-R8, I decided to go for sound. I used
an external power supply and attached the NF-R8 and a Panaflo
Ultra Quiet 80mm fan. The NF-R8 produced airflow of
approximately 31CFM versus the Panaflo's 24CFM. But, the sound
that I hear is the same when held at arms length. Not bad. But,
attaching the Low-Noise Adapter cable to the NF-R8 produced
airflow of approximately 23CFM. But, at arms length, I couldn't
hear the NF-R8. Man, what a difference! The Noctua NF-R8
produced almost the same amount of airflow with considerably
less noise."
Test verdict: "These fans earn our Grand Slam award. I would recommend them to anyone using air cooling in their system, or anyone who needs a silent fan for their watercooling radiator." (Brian Cochran, nVNews.net) |

"As I have mentioned we have no fancy tests to compare the
noise levels apart from our ears, but the fact once installed it
was what we could not hear that amazed us, going from a PC which
the loudest noise it produced was case fan noise, then it became
CPU cooler noise so we swapped the coolers fan for the 120mm
with an adaptor and if by magic (Noctua's wand) suddenly we have
one quiet rig with the loudest component being a HDD well as the
queen over here in blighty would say "One is impressed" and so
are we, when the editor came round even he too was shocked at
how much the rigs noise levels had changed and I quote him
direct when I say "Ehh them fans cant be working well if it is
that quiet" after I replied actually the GFX card is cooler than
with previous fans his eyebrows raised and he said F*** me I
never thought I would see a quiet 80mm fan based case""

"Podemos observar que a pesar de que el ventilador Noctua
tiene un menor tamaño e igual velocidad de rotación, la
temperatura es 2° menor en estado de reposo del sistema y 3°
menor con carga completa. La temperatura ambiente deciente
tambien un poco,lo cual nos da a entender que gracias a este
ventilador tenemos un mejor flujo de aire en general. [...] Al
incrementar la velocidad del procesador vemos unos resultados
similares a los anteriores, el ventilador Noctua se mantiene 2°
más abajo que su oponente el ventilador de stock del disipador
ASUS Silent Square, de igual manera la temperatura ambiente se
mantiene estable siendo menor al utiliza la solucion de Noctua.
[...] Incrementando aun más la velocidad del procesador vemos
que la eficacia del ventilador Noctua sigue haciendose notar,
manteniendose 3° por debajo de su competidor en estado de reposo
y 2° en carga completa. De igual forma la temperatura se
mantiene menor con el uso del ventilador Noctua. "

menyandang sebagai silent fan untuk case computer. Noise yang
ditimbulkan kedua fan sangat rendah dengan tingkat kebisingan
